Banana Cake

Last time I made this Banana cake a few weeks ago for a dinner party. Everyone liked it but it went down like a rock. Mostly because I didn’t do it right… I thought it was pretty sick.

I’m trying my hand at it again for a dinner party tomorrow night. I figure if it doesn’t work out I’ll just buy some cookies and milk.

2 1/4 cups cake flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon plus pinch of salt
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon plus 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 large eggs

2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

2 large bananas, peeled, sliced
