Scouting Artisitically

Last night I was on my own for Webelos. Paige and I decided I was capable of leading them in the Artist Activity Badge.

We began with a lovely rendition of “Black Socks” and then we skipped on out the door to begin our painting and discussion of all things art. They got to choose between acrylic paints and watercolors. We had paintings with eagles and palm trees and a couple landscapes with trees. It was a fun adventure.

Then I brought out my 4×5 and they all took turns focusing the camera and bouncing around in front of the lens. I am quick with that camera, thanks in part to my countless photo parties on my roof in Harlem over a year. I like my 4×5 best. Polaroid 4×5.

Pictured: Chasen, Taylor (top middle), Bradley (bottom middle), and Isaac.

They posed themselves. I quite like the symmetrical totem pole look. Isaac made his best “1907” face.

This is my new favorite photo.

Chasen and Bradley’s ride was late so we got to chatting whilst sitting on the curb in front of the church. When I was a kid I wanted to be a children’s book author and illustrator then I wanted to be an optomitrist, followed by an orthodontist.

Bradley said he wanted to “A. be an engineer, B. a plumber, C. an electrician, D. a custodian

Chasen said he wanted to be a writer so he could be at home with his kids. He’d really like to be an astronaut but then he wouldn’t get to see his kids too often.

Who thinks about having their own children at age ten? Amazing.
