They’re funny and new because they turn inside out
Did you ever have a Popple growing up?
Today, while I was verifying addresses, I saw a client with the last name Popple. How awesome would my life be if my last name was Popple?
Anyway, it got me all nostalgic remembering my bright blue Popple and my Popple sleeping bag. Sir Luke still has his…it’s less than clean. I would venture to say filthy.
It’s still pretty cute thought. Even if it makes me throw up in my mouth a little.
The Manipulator
I had totally forgotten about my introduction to the photography by Jill Greenberg.
Travis was looking through her bear and monkey images a few months ago at work and I became completely enamored. I love HMIs. They really bring a certain glow to a photograph. I had never seen them used in photography until a Nikon shoot I worked on with David Lindsey Wade.
Jill has been criticized greatly for her series involving children crying. But I think they are stunning and emotional in a positive way. All that she did was give them candy and then take it away.
These are the results. Love and sorrow.
I also love the human qualities in her shots of animals. Is it weird that I want to have a conversation with all of them?
H&M
I miss H&M.
The really H&M.
Not the half aced H&M that barely exists in the old Aladdin Hotel/new Planet Hollywood hotel. It’s funny because the entire inside is still a bazaar but the outside is totally modern and boring. Silly phobic Americans and their fear of the Middle East. Our GPS still thinks Abu and the Genie live there.
The point is this H&M was the size of my living room and had only the “hip urban” clothes and none of the sophisticated ones I was hoping for. I miss my three stories of magic and cheapie finds.
I guess I’ll just have to continually look for sales at Anthropologie…too bad.
Suburban Living in Sin City
It’s been an interesting change from big city life in New York to suburban life in a fairly booming suburban metropolis. I was blown away by all the strip malls there are and how accessible anything your heart desires is, aside from good music. That’s the one thing I really miss about New York life. I used to be able to open the Village Voice and find at the least one band in any given week that I would pay money to see, not that I had the money to go that often.
On Saturday, Sir Luke and I decided to go out for a movie. Being po-folk, we haven’t really gone out on the town much since we’ve been in Vegas. So we started looking for movies to see and Sir Luke picked Leatherheads, which I settled for. It wasn’t my favorite, and I probably wouldn’t recommend it to you, but it had it’s moments. It could also be that I wanted to see La Misma Luna, and will as soon as it comes out on video, but got vetoed.
Anyway, the point is we went to the theater and I was completely confused because Sir Luke told me the theater was on the left but I didn’t get it because all I saw was a casino. One minor tiff later and several u-turns, we parked and headed into the casino. Yes, ladies and gentlemen the movie theater was inside the casino.
This is an entirely new experience for a little Mormon girl from California. Even if I did spend the last couple years fighting off unwelcome gestures and comments as I made my nightly walk home from the subway.
Inspiration
Today I’m inspired by this photograph by Barbra Ziemer. Her shop on etsy.com has a lots of black and white photographs but her reflections are my favorite.
Especially this one.
Thanks for sharing desire to inspire.
