Married: Juliet & Stuart Utah Wedding Photographer

Posted on Nov 27, 2012

It’s hard to start writing about a girl who you’ve known since birth. I vividly remember going over to my best friend’s house to see her new baby sister. She didn’t have a name for quite a while, but in the end a perfect name was chosen, Juliet. This wedding was an absolute joy to be a part of. I’d not met Juliet’s love until the day of the wedding, but any guy that waits for his bride while she goes on a mission for 18 months is a stand-up guy to me. They are such a perfect match in so many ways. She found her guitar playing man!

The ceremony took place in the beautiful Salt Lake City Temple in Utah. A delicious luncheon was held afterward with a charming baseball theme. Stuart is a longtime Dodger fan, which is perfect for Juliet’s Los Angeles blood! The whole thing was put together by Stuart’s family and was so so darling.

They finished off the night celebrating with loads of family and friends, homemade pies and gorgeous decor DIY’d by the bride and her crew. Her amazing cousins, Kim, did all the florals and lots of the event design. Everything came together perfectly!

One tip I have for any couple having a reception in a church is, splurge on renting cute chairs! It made SUCH a difference in the overall feel of the space. I was really impressed! Juliet had a wonderful vision and it came together beautifully!

This wedding was so special to me. I’m glad that Project Wedding decided to feature it on their website and blog! It sure is incredible to see an image of mine rotating on their main page. Feeling honored and blessed to have been a part of Juliet and Stuart’s wedding! It was a DIY wedding masterpiece. Juliet’s vision of having a rustic, Anthropologie inspired affair was incredible. Everything came together so perfectly.

Make sure to check out the blog post on Project Wedding’s blog One Lovely Day and the gallery here.

And come back later in the week to see the full wedding post. I know I am thankful that I was included in their day and I know Juliet and Stuart are thankful to spend their first Thanksgiving together as husband and wife!

Congrats again you cutesies!

Katherine & Asa: Las Vegas Wedding Photographers

Posted on Nov 15, 2012

She crept out the front door of the house and gently shut it. She paused to give me time to ready my camera. They both stared at the ground with gaping smiles, giddy with the anticipation of seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day.

This first look was one of the most amazing first looks I’ve been a part of. The tenderness shown between Katherine and Asa was magic. Katherine’s teenage brother was outside as security to make sure no one walked up to disrupt the moment. When they made their way back inside he said, “that was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.” A first look may buck tradition bu there is something so beautiful about having that moment almost entirely to yourselves. Asa and Katherine took full advantage.

This couple booked their destination wedding in Las Vegas, coming all the way from Chicago to make sure the cold and wind wouldn’t impede any of their plans. It was an intimate occasion with their closest friends and family. And these people knew how to have a good time. I don’t think a single person got off the dance floor for more than two minutes at a time the entire night.

At the end of the night the entire group posed for one giant photo. And all of them chanted my name as I took the picture. I felt like a rock star! And that’s how the entire day went. Everyone was full of love for everyone there. It was magnetic.

Bruderer Family: Saltair Pavilion & Salt Flats

Posted on Nov 9, 2012

This session is of my best friend from college, Britta and her husband Scott and their two boys, Ben and Cole. She and I went through the photography program together at Brigham Young University. six years and several states later, we get to see each other much less. I cherish every visit and love to photograph her family whenever I can.

Britta really wanted something casual that showed off their personalities. We went out to the Saltair Pavilion. It sits on the edge of the Great Salt Lake and used to be a prime time location for a hub for recreation in the late 1800s. Now the lake has receded and it hosts concerts and other events. Because of the great location of the building we were able to let the boys run and play and explore.

I find the best way to get photos of kids is the let them have some freedom and play games with me and my camera. No one likes to be bossed around, especially children. We had a great time together, frolicking in the salty earth and the reeds.

Sure, it’s a little smelly out there, but isn’t it worth it?

Love you Beastie and crew!
