House Phase II
Back on the 13th Sir Luke and I ventured to see the house. It’s thrilling to see how quickly these things pop up!
Upon examination of the first floor I noticed that the ceilings seemed lower than I thought our requested 9′ should be. Sir Luke was convinced it was indeed 9′ but as we explored upstairs it was apparent that the heights were the same. We immediately called our sales associate who was quite hesitant when I called. She had seen the mistake only 20 minutes earlier. Needless to say we were all a little nervous about how the resolution would happen.
The next day we got a call from out superintendent who affirmed that the situation would be rectified and would set us back only two weeks. Unfortunately, they would have to tear down the house and start again…boo. I was a little disheartened because we are hoping to move in before October so we can give our notice to our current landlord. But as luck would have it constructionists are geniuses. What they did was release the second floor from the first and suspend it in air by a crane, rebuild the ground floor and set back on the top! Crazy? YES!
Here is the before and after. It’s hard to tell of the change in the height other that the opening for the front door, which is clearly a foot taller in the right hand photo.
The stair railing was also done incorrectly in the first house but has been corrected as well.
Sir Luke checking out the new heightened ceiling. Clearly 9′.
The best news is that with the accelerated work of the fantastic crew we’re back on the original schedule! Hooray!
I still can’t believe people my age are buying (let alone building) houses. Hoorah for you both!
Wow Megan, I am so excited for you! I can’t wait to see your house all finished.
This is exciting stuff! Very good of you to catch that error!
Just pocking around your blog. Congrats! I’m so excited for you! I keep telling myself that one day I will have a house….it’s just a long way into the future! Thanks again with your help on twitter. I wish you the best!
