Ruby’s Donut Party!
I had essentially been plotting Ruby’s first birthday party since the day she was born. It seems silly to look that far in advance but sometimes when you’re in the midst of an all night cry fest it helps to look to the happy milestones that are on the horizon. One of my favorite things I did in preparation for her first birthday was taking monthly photos of Ruby. I unintentionally put her in white the first two months so I decided to just carry on with it (minus one jean dress).
Ruby is a lover of donuts, a lot of donuts all the time. Nothing is better for a party theme than something that can be used in multiple ways, i.e. food, decor, favors, games. We had our local donut shop, Pink Box Donuts, make a ton of mini frosting-less donuts for our guests to decorate (game) and take home (favor). I cut out a ton of cute donuts on my Silhouette and put them up around the house as decor but also used those donuts for the “Pin the Donut on the Ruby” game as well. The best part of the party was the donut table full of all different kinds of tasty treats and featuring the amazing workmanship of Pink Box in the R-U-B-Y shaped donuts. It was one of my favorite things from the day.
To make the decor complete I employed Melanie Monroe to design the party invitations as well as a all over donut print that I was able to print at Staples on the giant printer for table covering and wall decor (I actually stayed up late the night before the party and painted over a wall that didn’t match my color scheme of pink sprinkle donuts, haha!).
Ruby was pretty overwhelmed with so many people in her house and became pretty devastated with us singing “Happy Birthday” to her. It was adorable and hilarious. It was her party and she could cry if she wanted to! I was so grateful to Jaynie from Ebb & Flow Ink for making Ruby’s milestone chart that we now have up in her bedroom and Christine Olson Photography for manning the camera so I could enjoy the party. And an especially big thank you to my mom for helping me get everything ready that morning in the frenzy that is party prep!
I’m so grateful for our friends and family that helped us celebrate one fabulous year with Ruby!
