Better, Closer, Warmer

Sir Luke and I found this desk (you have to sign up to see the link) in ReadyMade Magazine. It’s probably my most favorite magazine right now. That, and Martha Stewart Living.

We ventured to DI in hopes of finding a cheap file cabinet we could cover with contact paper. And as luck would have it they also had a door for sale. A big ol’ door that we could use as our table top. It’s perfect for our massive amount of computer equipment we both have. Plus I can sit at one end and Sir Luke can be at the other. There will be so much room! Then we hopped on over to the Depot and found us a cheap Genuine Burro Brand sawhorse.

So we made it.

I think it turned out pretty good. I forgot to do a before and after of the file cabinet. But just imagine that black and scratched and dented.

I was trying to search for a similar one online to do a mock “before and after” and while I was searching I found this.

I can’t believe they are charging $1,780.00 ā€“ $2,580.00. Here’s the breakdown cost of our file cabinet.

Cabinet – $15
Contact paper – $10

I saved between $1,755.00-$2,555.00. And mine looks dang good by comparison. Plus, it has racing stripes.

Good job on the file. You guys have a great sense of style and the way to get it done.

BTW, Martha’s last name is spelled Stewart.

for the longest time here in NY my desk was this red piece of wood i picked up off the street (it use to be the side of a dresser that had fallen apart). I used a keyboard stand I also picked up off the street.
    Hello? Cool free desk!!
