Display Thursday: Accentuate the Architecture

Every room has some kind of architectural distinction. Even if it’s just a window or door frame. If you’re having trouble figuring out what to do with photos; place them in areas that call attention to the layout of the room as well as the images.

The wainscoting  in this space is a perfect example of using the architecture of your home to help guide your photographic display choices. I love how the frames follow the horizontal lines in this space. I love that they used all white frames with white mats to continue the look of the wainscoting. Genius.

This nook under that stairs could be a total hassle but instead becomes a perfect little sanctuary. The placement of the photographs helps open the space because they aren’t all crammed together. Spreading smaller images out over a tiny wall can help it look bigger than it is. Just don’t go too small or you won’t be able to enjoy the photographs.

Ever wonder how to cover the ugly thermostat or door bell chime on a wall? Why not hide then by displaying various frame sizes around them. I almost didn’t see them on this slender section of wall space (probably in a hallway)! Such a clever idea! Plus it really leads the eye up and will make a darker hallway seem more open.

I hope these ideas have you looking at your home in a different way. I’m sure there are lots of little nooks and crannies that need some love on the walls!
