Editorial Family Portraits in Olympia, WA

While my mom and I were on our epic trip in April (more to come on that adventure soon!) we stayed with my brother and his family in Olympia, WA. I’ve only ever been to Seattle and I;d not seen their new home at that point.

It was unreal.

For a girl who has spent nearly five years living in a desert the beauty of the forrest, mountains, fields, and grandness of nature as a whole were overwhelming. My brother grew up, like I did, in the city/suburbia. He was always so cool to me when I was a small lasse. He gave me remote control cars for my birthdays and always had a motorcycle and a leather jacket. He and his son moved to WA about ten years ago. This is where he met my amazing sister-in-law, Christa. She. Is. Incredible. My brother was a little bit of a wild child and she tamed the beast! They have four girls together and have another (we don’t know if the baby is a boy or a girl yet!) on the way.

I think there is something so special about photographing a family in their natural element, just like I did with the Johnsons a few weeks ago. There is a time and place for a structured family photo shoot, but don’t be afraid to have a photographer come in a capture your daily routine, or a fun day you have planned. Those genuine moments will become treasured memories of you and your children’s personalities, interests, and love for one another.

With my brother’s family, they spend most of their time out on their farm. Riding horses, feeding goats, and exploring were on the docket for both days. The girls chose their own clothes and weren’t primped and I love everything about the images because of it.

And some of the few photos I was in on the trip, thanks Mom!
