Stay

Sir Luke and I travelled to Los Angeles/Agoura Hills/Huntington Beach over the weekend to celebrate the life and pay tribute to his grandfather Jesse E. Stay who passed away last week. It was really amazing to see his family come together and remember such a great man.

I am sad that I didn’t get to know him better but am so happy that he was able to come to Sir Luke’s and my temple marriage. You can read more about his life on the blog of Jesse E. Stay II.

I’ve been to several funerals in my life. None since high school and it’s hard to know what to do at them when you’re an outsider, or feel like one. So I did what felt natural and I photographed a little.

Helen Valentine Stay is one of the most gorgeous women. I love her eyes and her smile. There is something about her that I admire, but I don’t know her well enough to know what it is. Aside from raising seven children and being the wife to an Airforce man I don’t know her history. But you can tell there is a lot more than meets the eye.

I’ll help you out a bit: It’s being sweet as can be, but keeping a mischievous streak. It’s being brilliant, but praising everyone around you. It’s being dazzlingly beautiful (has Luke shown you the picture Grandpa took with him to the war? talk about a knock out), but admiring beauty in the world around her. She truly is amazing.

Love the photo of her head on Meg — so beautiful. Is that chapel in Huntington? It looks like my old stake center…

Nicki…it IS our stake center! Patriarch Stay is in my parents stake in Huntington Beach, where I (and Nicki) grew up! I didn’t know that you married his grandson. How are you guys related to Kirsa? She was my roommate at BYU my freshman year and I know the Stay’s are her grandparents. My parents were at that funeral. I love the pictures that you took of the family. Very precious.

  • Sir Luke says:

whoa, small world. Kirsa is my/our cousin. She’s my dad’s older brother’s daughter.
