The Manipulator

I had totally forgotten about my introduction to the photography by Jill Greenberg.

Travis was looking through her bear and monkey images a few months ago at work and I became completely enamored. I love HMIs. They really bring a certain glow to a photograph. I had never seen them used in photography until a Nikon shoot I worked on with David Lindsey Wade.

Jill has been criticized greatly for her series involving children crying. But I think they are stunning and emotional in a positive way. All that she did was give them candy and then take it away.

These are the results. Love and sorrow.

I also love the human qualities in her shots of animals. Is it weird that I want to have a conversation with all of them?
