We See Cathy’s Senior Portraits: Coronado High School Senior Portraits

Posted on Jul 19, 2011

Cathy just finished up her last year in high school. This young woman is such an incredible person. She is so motivated to succeed in life and it was obvious when she put on her graduation robe and all her sashes and cords. I was completely blown away. I was lucky to graduate with a 3.6 and felt super proud. Yeah… Cathy’s got over a 4.0… she’s a total smarty.

On top of being a genius she was involved in student government and crowned prom queen! I don’t think you can get more well rounded than that!

Congratulations, Cathy!!

Display Thursday – Hanging

Posted on Jul 7, 2011

Hanging photographs can be seem daunting. Sometimes it’s hard to visualize your space. I hope the tips and arrangements I post help you! Today I’m talking about a more classical way to hang your frames. Hanging from a decorative moulding was a popular way to hang images back in the day. Many art museums still use this tactic to easily move images around a wall and allow for varying sizes of artwork.

I love the simple and elegant way the artwork is displayed so that it is the focal point of the room. Hanging the frames at varying heights moves your eye along the wall.

An easy way to do this without moulding is to actually mount the frame to the wall and then suspend ribbon above the frame to give the illusion that it is being suspended by the ribbon. You could still attach it to moulding or just to mails above the frame. I think the longer the suspension the more formal it looks.

Another option is to mix the suspended images with regularly mounted wall portraits. Gives your space a more eclectic look. It would be even more beautiful with different types of ribbon, keeping colors in the same hue with different textures and types.

The last image is probably my favorite. Definitely more in line with my collected style. I don’t really put things together that match and I think the last image really exemplifies that for me. Do you think hanging ribbon has a place in your home?

You may remember Stetson and Danielle from a couple months ago. While we were shooting we spied an old building with shattered windows and no lock on the door. So with some coaxing from Stetson (I am such a scaredy-cat sometimes!) we made our way into the building to the good light. All the way across the warehouse…. Once my eyes adjusted it wasn’t SO bad but still.

I loved these shots of them inside. Much more editorial. I loved it.

We See Family Love – Las Vegas Family Portraits

Posted on Jun 30, 2011

On a sweltering Friday night the Nash family along with their Labradoodle, Bailey, and I drove out ot Corn Creek in North Las Vegas. The temperature dropped about twenty degrees way out in the sticks. We were SO grateful, especially Gareth who was wearing a sweater. Good, good man to wear whatever the wife tells him!

Highlights from the evening:
Using a hot pink porta potty (yes indeed)
Seeing a giant frog in a creek
Bailey frolicking to her hearts content
And especially getting to know Londyn’s many expressions!
There was something broken behind me, apparently. Haha! She was cracking us all up the entire time!
