Isabella

Posted on Oct 3, 2011

I love this little moppet. She was loving holding my hand as we walked from location to location. Be still my heart, so sweet. Her parents were crazy enough to bring along Izzie’s dogs, Pepe and Jackie. So yeah, the leashes were left at home. But Paula, being a genius, made a leash out of ribbon and a stick. They looked like sled dogs ready to run.

Isabella was a little dream boat in her pretty princess dress. She had so much fun walking along the boardwalk and posing the day away. It was adorable. Like uber adorable. I’m not kidding, here is the proof.

Just after this photo was taken Jackie found the only mud puddle in the entire place, rolled around in it and ran amuck. It was hilarious but I’m not sure Alex and Paula felt the same way. So she was banned to her kennel in the shade with some water while we carried on with our session.

Display Thursday: Statement Wall

Posted on Sep 29, 2011

Making statements with art and photography on the wall can make a serious impact when you walk into a room. I love these ways people bring your attention right to the artwork on the wall with the configurations of photographs.

This one is by far my favorite. I love all the tiny frames all in one color in complete contrast with the rest of the room. This way your eye goes directly to the gorgeousness on the wall. (Spellcheck totally accepted gorgeousness)
Again, here, the same frame color and in this case mats which offset the grey walls and lead your eye across the space. I really love this space in general. I want that coffee table.
This freeform corner display is full of an eclectic combination of imagery and frames. they’ve capitalized on the small section of wall by making it a real focal point. Perfect.
I’ve got a statement wall going in my house, maybe I should photograph that and share. It’s definitely close to what it looked like in my old house.

Display Thursday: Shelves

Posted on Sep 22, 2011

One way to put your photos on display is with a narrow shelf. There are tons of options, some intense and others more subtle. If you like to change out your photos and frames on a regular basis this is a great way to get in a rotation without excessive nails.

I love how this shelving wraps around the breakfast nook. It’s super elegant and allows for maximum display space.

We don’t have a fireplace but are considering a faux fireplace/heater in our bedroom since it becomes an icebox in the winter. Yes it’s Vegas but believe me it is chilly in there! Anyway point being standing an image on top of the mantle instead of mounting it to the wall allows you to change your mind at a moment’s notice. I love that it’s paired with other art and lanterns so the smaller image doesn’t seem out of scale with the fireplace.

If you want to go for both on the wall and shelf this is a great way to integrate wall mounted and leaning photographs. I really like that they used the rail from the wainscoting and built up from there. Very pretty!

Is a shelf up your alley? I got one at a garage sale for $1 but I haven’t put it up yet. I’m still deciding if it’s me or not. Thoughts?

31 Dates in 31 Days!

Posted on Sep 22, 2011

The time has come! It’s the release of the book ‘31 Dates in 31 Days!!’ I am SO happy for Tamara for all her hard work and am proud to say that I know her. Tamara and I met in NYC when we were living there. She asked me to photograph her wedding after finding the man of her dreams in a very unconventional way. After going on 31 first dates the public decided on her second date. And guess what, she married him!! I was lucky enough to photograph Tamara and Evan’s wedding in January of 2010. You can read more about the story here on my blog OR on the feature on Style Me Pretty and of course in Tamara’s book, ‘31 Dates in 31 Days.’ Be sure to check out her blog, of the same name, too. She is a fantastic writer and so funny.

Congratulations Tamara!! You’re awesome! Oh, and you too Evan. haha!

Display Thursday: Accentuate the Architecture

Posted on Sep 1, 2011

Every room has some kind of architectural distinction. Even if it’s just a window or door frame. If you’re having trouble figuring out what to do with photos; place them in areas that call attention to the layout of the room as well as the images.

The wainscoting  in this space is a perfect example of using the architecture of your home to help guide your photographic display choices. I love how the frames follow the horizontal lines in this space. I love that they used all white frames with white mats to continue the look of the wainscoting. Genius.

This nook under that stairs could be a total hassle but instead becomes a perfect little sanctuary. The placement of the photographs helps open the space because they aren’t all crammed together. Spreading smaller images out over a tiny wall can help it look bigger than it is. Just don’t go too small or you won’t be able to enjoy the photographs.

Ever wonder how to cover the ugly thermostat or door bell chime on a wall? Why not hide then by displaying various frame sizes around them. I almost didn’t see them on this slender section of wall space (probably in a hallway)! Such a clever idea! Plus it really leads the eye up and will make a darker hallway seem more open.

I hope these ideas have you looking at your home in a different way. I’m sure there are lots of little nooks and crannies that need some love on the walls!

We See Engagement Love: Tara & Aaron’s Las Vegas Engagement Photos

Posted on Aug 26, 2011

Tara and Aaron met when they were in high school working at Kmart. And when Aaron proposed many years later he took her back to the place of their meeting to pop the question. So cute! They moved to Vegas when Aaron was stationed here at Nellis. Aaron is deployed to Afghanistan next month, thoughts and prayers to him for the next seven months. Needless to say that they are both looking forward to their wedding next June in St. Louis. So happy for them!

An engagement session with me is much different than your average engagement. Instead of just posing for the camera I strive to create a space where you can be yourselves, open up a little and celebrate your love for each other. Because of this we come up with authentic moments that reflect who you really are. You will look fantastic and genuine. I know you’ll love the images as much as I love making them!

Congratulations, Tara and Aaron! Here’s to many years of joy and happiness!
