You know I love you, New York

Posted on Aug 28, 2008

I miss New York a lot.

Sometimes I dream about it, or think about it at work. People will ask me, when they hear I’ve just moved from there, if I want to go back I usually say yes. And I do, but it wouldn’t be for long. I’m not a city girl. But I do love the perks that come with city life. Vegas is definitely lacking in the movie and music scene. But maybe I haven’t discovered all of its secrets.

So here’s a shout out from the girl in the other city that never sleeps.

This photo is another from the archives I took in 2005 on a school trip from BYU.

The Archives

When we moved into our house here in Vegas earlier this year my parents felt the need to bring all of my childhood boxes here to live with me. Among them were my boxes of photo stuff and other heavy things that I didn’t really need when I left school in Utah and moved to New York.

Sir Luke fabulously organized the boxes last week whilst I was at work. I came home to a very awesome garage which allowed me to see all of my boxes! I am definitely going to be going through them all. Don’t worry, it will only take me about 4 years.

The first thing I found was a numbered CD form my days of work at Campus Photo. I decided to pop it into ye olde computer to see what oldies were on it.

I found these beauts from 2004. This was a promo shoot that Erik did for his friend Lexi, who is a jazz singer. I have no idea what has happened with her but I do remember being totally intimidated by Erik’s awesomeness in shooting and my meager attempts. Looking at them now I don’t think they’re too bad. The unfortunate part is I can’t really remember whether or not Erik took any of these or not. I remember taking most of them, but the orange background, I believe, are his.

Erik?

Megan Vs. Bear

Posted on Aug 26, 2008

I have a small sleeping problem. I tend to walk in my sleep, talk in my sleep and I have been told I have hallucinogenic hypnagogic dreams. Pretty much it means I see things in my dreams that seem real. I have no idea I’m dreaming when this happens. It can be pretty scary.

Just like Saturday night when I turned over and saw a bear sleeping in my bed. I probably started screaming, which made the bear wake and scream as well. As the bear began to scream I realized that the bear was in fact my husband, Sir Luke.

I scared that poor man out of his wits.

The rest of the day he kept telling me over and over, “I’m not a bear, Megan. I’m not a bear.”

Sorry, Sir Luke! I do know you’re not a bear. But sometimes my sleeping mind plays tricks on me.

I don’t know if any of you read the Nie Nie Dialogues, but a tragic event took place last week. Stephanie Nielson and her husband Christian went down in a small plane crash in Eastern Arizona. The pilot, and her husband’s flight instructor, Doug Kinneard, passed away due to complications from the crash. Stephanie has burns on 80% of her body; Christian’s cover 30%.

I’ve been reading Stephanie’s blog for over a year. She even featured a picture of my grandmother’s wedding here. She is a prime example of motherhood and a wonderful missionary for our Church. I thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

It was really devestating to read about the crash in the online Arizona papers. On Saturday people all over the world released balloons with wishes for a Stephanie and her family. The Nielson’s four adorable children are being taken care of by family members while Stephanie and Christian start the long battle for recovery. They are by no means out of the woods yet. But with prayers and fasting I know they will get well soon. You can read updates from Stephanie’s sister Jane on her blog here.

To donate to the recovery fund please click the button on the sidebar to the left. The medical bills will be staggering with months of surgeries, skin grafts, and rehabilitation. Take some time and read over her blog. You won’t regret it!

Re-Upholster

Posted on Aug 22, 2008

When we first moved to Vegas we made one of MANY trips to DI. We bought mismatched chairs, a dresser, records, etc. One of my favorite finds was this awesome chair.

It’s been waiting for me to reupholster it for about seven months now…as has Sir Luke. Thankfully my mother has given me the go ahead to bring it down to California on our trip in a couple weeks.

I’m hoping I can find some awesome fabric for cheap like this or this.
