The Wright Way

Posted on Oct 21, 2008

I’ve been shooting here and there for a woman in my ward named Deanna Wright. She’s running for School Board Trustee for our school district. She’s got a great personality as you can tell. It’s been a lot of fun. One shoot was a conversation with the parents of students and another at a debate at a local middle school.

You can view both events here.

Reading is Fundamental

Some people wonder why I’m not going to vote for John McCain. My mother mostly. Among many reasons one would be his choice for a running mate. If the man can’t make a logical choice for a VP how can I trust him to make a good choice for the rest of the country?

Oh man, that Terry Tate. Love it.

The Story of the Hammock

Posted on Oct 17, 2008

When Sir Luke and I went out our lovely honeymoon to Costa Rica our funds for souvenirs were low and we wanted to make sure we got something useful that we could have for a long time.

Hammocks are very prevalent down there. After the first couple days of driving past a roadside hammock salesman we stopped on our way back from Zoo Ave. The two guys that were selling made the hammocks and were super nice. So we didn’t haggle and forked over the majority of our monies on a hammock for two.

When we took it to the airport the nice people there wrapped it in opaque blue plastic wrap so it would be safe on the flight. Unfortunately our check in agent was a poop and made us check it, even though someone else on our flight brought theirs on board. So when we got out hammock at LAX the lovely security people had sliced the opaque blue plastic wrap to see what was inside the awkward looking package.

Lucky for us the hammock wasn’t badly injured and we were able to hang it up in our scrawny back yard last Saturday. I plan on laying in it most of the weekend. I’m glad the cold front has gone.

Happy weekend!

Commodities

Posted on Oct 16, 2008

My good friend Robot* has beginning his awesome Commodities project. His idea is pretty rad. Make art, sell it in an open market online and document the sale. I’m not sure when the piece would end, be it on the wall of buyer’s home, or once the sale has been made, but it’s rad to me. When he talked to me about it the other day I thought it sounded like a happening for 2008.

The happening is the process of selling the art on eBay here and interacting with people as they purchase. You can be part of the art by watching, bidding and buying of his artwork. I love it.

Some of the featured artwork.

You can keep up on the goings on of the project here. For those of you who want to know more about happenings and participation art you can read about it here.

* The reason I call Erik Dalzen, Robot, is because back in the day once upon a time he convinced me that his legal name was Robot. The reason, he said, was because his mother wants a more contemporary spin on Robert. And thus Robot was born. Later I found out it was all a lie..dang robots.

New Wall

Posted on Oct 15, 2008

We’ve had blank walls in our bedroom for far too long. So finally last weekend we decided to take some initiative late Saturday night and put up our stuff.

I bought the For Like Ever poster for Sir Luke for Christmas last year. I pretty much love it. The deluxe edition I bought is sold out now but you can purchase a limited edition here.

We bought a cheap poster frame at Michael’s and I painted it Cream so it matched better with the print. It’s really cheap but it will have to do until we can afford a nice frame job.

Vacation Bible School

Posted on Oct 14, 2008

When I was six a new Lutheran church was built around the corner. My mom sent me to Vacation Bible School there one summer. I had a badge that I wore so I could go to all the different activities.

My mom found it in her sewing room and decided to send it over to add to my Polaroid collection. I remember that outfit. I’m pretty sure we got it at Costco.

I like how I wrote my name back then. My “M” looks like a little tepee.

I do also remember that the Minister from the church was ousted for “misconduct.”
