Mas Mas MAS

On Wednesday morning my nephew Adam and my brother-in-law Jeff were planning on making a ten mile hike as part of earning a merit badge for Boy Scouts. Sir Luke had made one only a week or two before with his Boy Scouts. Out of no where I had this serious urge to go and so the two of us joined along with another brother-in-law Omar.

We started at 7AM and it was absolutely gorgeous. I couldn’t believe how still it was. We hiked along the valley floor from Camp Curry (where we stayed) to Bridal Veil Falls. About a quarter of the way through my knees started giving out. This followed by the realization, upon arriving at Bridal Veil, that there wasn’t a tram that went out that far and I was going to have to hike another 5.5 miles back to camp. My body was a total mess for the rest of the trip. I had compensated for the pain in my knee by walking all wonky and ended up tweaking my hip. Thus my grandma limp the rest of the trip.

My mom had the idea to go through some old family albums and film her going through the albums and everyone’s memories and responses. Unfortunately my mom grabbed the closest albums to the front of the cabinet on the way out the door and they weren’t all very relevant to the siblings at the camp. Sir Luke filmed it and will be editing it at some point. Perhaps I’ll be able to post it at some point. It was a fun evening. Jacob, another newphew decided (after uncle Luke let him operate the camera) that he wanted to be a camera man for his job.

New York Botanical Garden: The Blog

Posted on Jul 31, 2008

Sir Luke uses “Google Alerts” to tell him when someone posts something about me, Megruth and Megan Ruth Stay. So pretty much every time I blog he gets an email alert, not super exciting.

But on Tuesday he sent me an email because someone had mentioned a “charming clip” I had made a couple years ago about the New York Botanical Gardens. Nick Leshi posted on Plant Talk about YouTube videos about the The Botanical Gardens.

“If you come across any videos about the Botanical Garden, let us know. One of my favorites is this charming clip created by “megruth” who visited with her mom a couple of years ago during our popular Chihuly exhibition.”

I hadn’t watched this one in a while and Sir Luke noticed I spelled heavy wrong…oh well. That’s what happens when you don’t have a husband reading over your shoulder when you’re writing.

Even More Yosemite Pictures

This was our first full day on the trip. After our hike up to Yosemite Falls, seen in Monday’s post, we went on a Valley Tour for two stunning, long and hot hours. It was really amazing to see everything and learn so much about the history of Yosemite that I had never known before. It was sweltering but well worth the heat to see all of the Valley in one fell swoop.

One of my favorite stories from my childhood is a story about the creation of El Capitan (seen in the picture with the binoculars). It’s the story of two bear cubs that go wandering off on their own. They fall asleep and wake up to find they are thousands of feet up above their home. All the animals try to get them down. The mountain lion jumps up and scrapes the side of the granite face of the mountain and cannot make it. But it is the inchworm that climbs ever so slowly up to the top and rescues the cubs by lowering them down with his silk strands.

It’s completely unrealistic but SO awesome. You can buy it here on Amazon.

The Dark Who?

Posted on Jul 29, 2008
On Saturday Sir Luke and I went to see “The Dark Knight” with some friends at the IMAX. If you already saw this movie in the theater and it wasn’t on IMAX, get back in your car and go to the nearest IMAX theater and watch it again. Two of our friends had already seen it but thought since the rest of us were going doing it they should too. And they didn’t regret it.

It was AWESOME. I had a perpetual “WHOAAA” face most of the movie. There are about 20 minutes, including one serious action scene, filmed in IMAX. Sir Luke said that they invented a whole new rigging system for the IMAX camera for the intense scenes because no one has used it in those situations before. It really was like we were in the movie.

To me this movie wasn’t really about Batman. The Joker stole the show, just like he stole everything else. Heath Ledger was incredible in his role. It’s so sad to think of all the movies he could have been in. Amazing.

Shoot! The Day Submissions

Posted on Jul 25, 2008

Sir Luke and I went up to Utah last weekend to interview some friends and family about cars for a marketing company he works or freelance. It was a nice excuse to see some family and make another getaway.

It was Shoot! The Day on Sunday July 20th on our drive back. So most of my submissions will be out the window of a car. We were in a hurry to leave so we didn’t spend too much time stopping to take pictures.
